norton73 said:The parts bike mkIII that I have was found in a dumpster many years ago. The top end was missing and one of the lobes was worn round. I guess someone had the bike torn down, didn't fix it, so tossed it.
I was using it as a parts bike for my '73, but as there's not much that interchanges, I haven't used much. I recently found most of the missing stuff on eBay and swap meets, got a title, so that is gonna be a future project.

I'm going to drop the pieces of starter that I have along with an old Sportster starter at an electric shop in the next couple days and see what they have to say about it.

I helped him load the parts back up and went outside the gate where I gave him 50 bucks for all the pieces.
Now the sad part. He had owned the bike since new but had missplaced the title some years earlier. He tried to sell the bike and someone told him it was not legal to sell it without a title.
So he took the complete bike to the scrapyard and they would not take it without a title unless it was cut up. So he went home and with the help of a neighbor and his gas ax -they chopped it into pieces.
The bike had less than 1500 miles on it. The swingarm, frame and fork tubes were chopped. Other than that is was pretty cherry.
I applied for and got a copy of the title and still have the bike in boxes. Jim

What type ignition system does it have? Very important as low voltage during starting can have a bad outcome with the starter gear train with some after market electronic ignition
