Movin' on Up!

Yeah, this time I might go with the black and white checkerboard shop floor, memorabilia all over the walls, mini-fridge, etc., like a proper fancy shop. It's always been a dream...
Mini fridge? You got room for a beer cave in there!

Only 14' x 25' is shop space, and there's a whole kitchen not more than 20' from it.

...plus, I don't drink beer, never have in 64-1/2 years...

Vino? Gummies? Jackie D.?
That's big list.
Are you doing all the physical humping and lifting? No day to day labor help or plumbing/electrical input from contractors?
Also curious how you are getting around any municipal or state inspectors, they can really make life a misery...is your location remote enough that they leave you alone?

This post list everything I've personally done.

I had a helper for one day to help with a bit of dirt digging/smoothing, but he's mostly just been helping me with the PHYSICAL MOVE of all my stuff from the old place to the new place.

City only requires a $25 permit, with no follow-up by them AT ALL. Now, when the time comes for a septic system and/or water well, they get another fee, the state gets a fee, there are inspections and analysis before the work, and again after the work.

Other than that, it's outside the city limits, so they don't care much. "Subdivision" was illegal (the bunch that sold me my lot are re-surveying and re-designing); so even though they had no restrictions apart from mobile homes, even that is out the window.

Your project is really cool and enjoy watching the development of your venture. Thanks again for sharing your "upgrade".
A lot of hard physical work...keep the balance and stay safe.
More pics as you progress, OK?

It has been extremely windy (tornado action 2 days ago); should start steel erection tomorrow...
I am impressed, GP! Is your steel constructor taking care of fulfillment of the applicable structural code requirements? In view of your wind actions, I had expected to see some bracing at the gables and between the walls to protect against push-over actions. Maybe some steel has yet to be installed?

The building supplier designs and rates the overall structure for regional historical conditions. I just supplied a simple concept drawing, they did the structural design.

I will catch this thread up with a "short version" and fewer pix than the dozens I've taken since the fire...

Hangar door frames done and hung in place. Just need insulation & sheeting. Next - hoist motor mounts.

The boys have been busy installing windows...

Almost able to appreciate a corner view showing two finished walls...

I decided I don't need soffit panels in the outside end canopies, so I'm going to use those sheets to build a shed roof from the north wall over to the storage container. It will serve as a perfect breezeway to store the tractor & implements, and park the camper.

So, first order of business is to dig 3 column base holes.

Cost to RENT auger = $350
Cost to BUY auger = $750
Simple Math = BUY AUGER!!!!

That sucker will dig a 36" deep x 9" diameter hole in about 10 seconds. I love my '62 Ford, older than me and works 10 times as hard!

(I also love Tractor Supply)

As tall as that looks and Texas being flat don't you need a red light on the roof or were you planning a rotating beacon to find you way home ? LOL Looks great!

Lookin' Good GP!! Well, we took possession and got the keys to our new place here in Japan just south of Yokohama and would you believe it....when I was going through cleaning out the few things that the previous owner had left behind , I found a small folding lawn chair/or camping chair with canvas seat and seat back ...in the shed and lo and behold it says John Player Special on it from "back in the day". The Japanese dude we bought the place from had no idea I have a Norton - I took it as a sign that we were meant to buy this property. lol

The auger included the PTO drive shaft too? Where did you order the setup?
Do you ever let your tractor (Ford or Farmall?) get dirty?;)

Tractor Supply sells the kit without the bit (but DOES include variable length driveshaft, new center pin and all 3 new safety clips, plus 2 legs to stand it up with (when it's off the tractor).

You've GOT to be kidding about letting my tractor get dirty! It's FILTHY in the above photo (that's the "Shirly Temple" side)

I don't currently have a photo of the "Lon Chaney" side...

I've been too busy to post updates, I'll catch up maybe this weekend.

Building will be "dried in" on Monday or Tuesday...

We all know if they're not leaking they're out of oil!!!! My reasoning was the stuff I used was great to apply. But gasoline left overnight turned floor yellowish and engine oil can get very slick, but easy to clean up. Also had to wait 30/45 days before applying
