1971 750 Roadster. Does anyone have a clear picture of how this is to be attached to the frame. Mine looks like it had an extension welded to the original bracket to get it further away from the frame. Very ugly piece of work. Thanks for any information.

The switch doesn't normally attach to the frame, it fits into to a bracket attached to the rear plate of the air filter.

The '72 is the same. The bracket is actually part of the rear air cleaner plate (spot welded to it). There is a black rubber (or plastic of some sort) boot that goes over the whole thing and hides the ignition switch terminals. In your picture it looks like it's there but it is pulled back and balled up somehow. Normally the boot is pulled over the switch and bracket from the front so I don't know how it got to be that way.

If you look directly below where the wires connect you will see an ugly weld which extends an original looking L shaped bracket. It doesn't look like original. Someone just Mickey Moused a fix to get easier access I think. Anyway, thanks. I'll see if I can get a good look at a fully restored one this summer to see how it is supposed to go.

All the stock ignition locks are ugly IMO. Now this is my idea of an ignition lock.

Guess once you bought that fancy setup you didn't have any money left for forks or a gas tank eh

I've pushed my Norton to the local convenience store for years. I stand by it, answering questions and giving condescending looks to the Harleys when they come in. Never seen a need for more than chrome and keeping the tires pumped up. I only keep the tires pumped up because I have found it's harder to push when they are flat (also, sometimes little kids make remarks).

gotta be CNW?
I think Buell uses those kind of barrels, I cruised the CNW site and didn't see them. Of course black would be better :)

i always thought the ignition switch should just be a switch mounted out of the way somewhere on the frame.

no worries about lost keys. only the owner knows where the switch is.

of course, if somebody with half an ounce of braines wants to steal your bike, he'll do it.

That's my thought. Right now, the switch is right out in the open, but soon I'll put another under the corbin seat.

I figure that it took me an hour to start it my first try, it'll be the same for the thief.

The thieves just get a couple of guys and throw it in a lorry or van and it's gone. They'll deal with starting it later.
