Most desirable Norton???

If you know its not utterly original, and didn't pay £27,000 for it (!), then its more likely to get ridden, like it should be. Give us a ride report some day.

Some of the magazines have shown some of these newly built Manxes and G50s with road gear and number plates on them. Since SOHC Manxes anyway have vernier adjustable valve timing, the inlet cam can be set more to road bike valve timing, which even lets them operate with a muffler - does the DOHC allow this ?

Yes, it's all ajustable with pins like the SOHC. Not an easy job to get right by all accounts. The weather has turned very cold here now and it was trying to snow earlier, so no hurry to go out on it just yet. I'm getting a megaphone made to nearer the correct spec, as the one on it is off a G50 Matchless, and I have to make a better head steady than the one fitted. It should be ready for the first sunny day :D

Having once had unbaffled megaphones on a road going Dommie, briefly, I can confidently report it is not the way to ride around without attracting attention. !

The P!! open drag pipes were soft kettle drums more felt in trunk than heard then conversation stopping getting on it. I didn't like the unfinished headers so found some hollow steel trumpet tapered cone megaphone with about 4" dia. exits. They were HORRIFICIALLY HURTFUL. I lined em with fibrerglass retained by screen to tolerate them and not get shot on sight. But the P!! was a Beast and would blow the stuffings out after very few throttle rushes. I think its loud sounds is what made the 1%'s connect with me. Found out quick that life style wasn't for me.

If I still lived in Fla. or Texas or a place like Iowa, I'd sell off Peel in an instant for P!!'s better straight roaring rushes. Peel could chrip on shifts BFD - P!! could just twist on smoke in 4th up to 60's and float front into the 90's. My dream machine would be sticking the P!! engine in Peel's frame. Oh do I miss it so...

Btw 1st was good to 60 so didn't need but two car spaces to shoot right into hwy traffic then snick 2nd to slide a bit out of lane then pass a line of em to snick 3rd to really make some time. I hated 3rd in wimpy Peel but my favorite on P!! which could launch in 3rd w/o too much wheel spin but oh the vibration.

Here is a beauty.

Ok, seriously.

Goosebumps were abound when this one shot down the straight at Grattan.
It was an honor to sit on this incredible motorcycle.

Yes, swooshdave's right leg has become quite larger than the left.

Duh, can anyone post a picture or a tale of a real Manx with road legal lighting and side stand that's been tagged and lived in public on?

Hobot, I think that is what Horror has posted about, & he asked in return - about the roadability of your competiton P11..

I feel that any Manx with charging system, lights, horn, and turn signals isn't a "real" Manx.
I just cannot imagine sitting at a stop light revving the ba-jesus out of it to keep from stalling all the while blowing the windshield out of poor granny's Nova with 200 dBA coming out the pipe.

What? so, No hopped-up Mazda Wankels around your parts then?
Used to be some `round here, but the cops have orders from the govt to blitz-fine everything - that aint totally kosher - without mercy, to make-up revenue shortfalls..
Funny how those super-loud Euro machines seem to get away with it, maybe they have some certification tricks or something..
I thought I heard a really raucous Z1 with an open 4-1 come up the street, but when I looked, it was a new Ferrari rag-top V8, with that same flat-plane crank rasping sound..

I've seen one on the road, but here in the UK, no lighting can be road legal lighting.

Nice finds, Ken. I had forgotten about the road-going Manx in Ireland until you posted the link. That shot was taken only 5 miles away from where I live.

The November 1973 edition of Cycle had an article called "Cat for a Country Road - A Streetable Manx". I could dig it out and scan it if anyone is interested. Here's a link to the cover: http://dadsvintageads.wordpress.com/cat ... s/page/44/
Scroll down, 2nd from top.

Perhaps you could hire your Manx out to guys who just want the experience of riding the real thing once in their lives ? I think I would pay for a few supervised laps on it.

That idea turns to financial mush as soon as you explore the insurance premiums ?!!
Or someone overrevs it, or throws it down the road...
