Morgo UK Any Good?

Probably an email / spam filter issue.

Seems like it’s a 50/50 shot these days emailing just about anyone through their web contacts etc.

Agree that few seem to answer. So many have given up on email because it is just another
work load to deal with. So many have gone back to the telephone and then never bother with that either.
So much for progress!
 
Good reputable company. Good products.

I've used a Triumph oil pump and several of their oil filters. Last one purchased less than a year ago.

They have a long standing reputation for decent products.
It's a pity they're all out of Triumph oil pumps at the moment 😞
 
I have one of their rotary type pumps on the TR7 Tiger, & it has performed faultlessly for many thousands of miles. At the classic bike show several years ago I asked them about a pump for Norton twins, & the reply was..... watch this space. Still watching, but sadly no Norton pump as yet.

The law of supply and demand usually applies to what is made. Triumph twins have always been much more common then Nortons. It is interesting to note that, in the two camps in Britsh motorcycle manufaturing, there is difference in the oil pumps. Plunger pumps occur in Ariel, BSA and Triumph. Norton use gear pumps. But most early Nortons had roller bearing big ends and did not need high pressure to float the bearings. I suspect my 850 motor has almost zero oil pressure, But it revs slower than a Triumph. It has not destroyed itself yet, so the high pressure might be un-necessary.

BSA A50/65/70 used rotary oil pumps, pretty sure A10s did as well.

The Morgo "rotary" is a micro-annular (or double 'trochoid') gear pump.

Yep BSA twins and Triumph and BSA triples all use rotary pumps and yes they wet sump when the pump wears. At least mine did.

The general reason morgo make a rotary pump for a triumph is because they are troublesome
You only need a tiny bit of debris under the ball valve to make a pilgrim stop pumping
The Norton pump is generally reliable in comparison
So there would be no real market for Norton morgo pump
 
I've been on the Triumph bulletin boards for close to twenty years and have only seen a couple of cases where the pump had some debris and wet sumped and was easily repaired with a simple cleaning. I would rate the Triumph plunger pump as very reliable. The Morgo rotary has increased volume for racing but on a street bike it's overkill.

I've had issues with Triumph ball valve seating, and it's a pain we don't have on Nortons. While it may be an easy repair, it's still a couple of hours' work. If it happens away from home you're stuck, unless a timing side rebuild at the roadside is your thing, including re-timing the ignition - and having something to catch the oil.
It's true that the Triumph pump is generally fit for purpose, but at tickover, the oil retuning to the tank is a frothy dribble, compared to the steady flow we're used to with geared pumps.
I fitted a Morgo rotary pump to my T140 primarily to avoid the ball valve issue, but the additional flow is reassuring. From personal experience geared pumps are 100% reliable, while the Triumph pump is not.
 
My Morgo plunger pump has given long good service in a Triumph 650 engine.

The Morgo oil pressure sender adapter for Triumphs is a bit cumbersome, but also works fine.

I only personally know of two cases but have heard many
The last one was my mates late 60s t120 last year
He doesn't have an oil pressure light or guage
The pump had packed up and didn't realise until it was too late
The engine needed a total rebuild
It's fixed now and fitted with an oil pressure light
 
Got to argue with you htown16. Well at least my broken collar bones, shoulder, big toe length wise through the knuckle, cracked pelvis & hip want to arque with you lol.
Scavange side changing up from 3rd to 4th out of Chessons Drift full lock up, Superman over the front. I have a Morgo rotary in my Jim Lee now.

As an aside I have a Geoff Monty engine in my Triton with a bulge in the timing cover for a Norton pump!


My head tells me a plunger pumps fine & they are ive done thousands of miles on them with no problem but my head has a little voice in there whispering.
 
It is wise to have a pressure indicator or warning lamp with a Triumph (or Morgo) plunger pump.

There is a period of higher risk of ball valve trouble after any disturbance of the crankcase or oil tank. Some experienced service operators never remove the crankcase gauze or wash out the oil tank when changing the oil, because it’s safer to leave the dirt wherever it has settled.

I’ve seen the ball valve dirt problem happen once, on a friend’s bike, on first start after a rebuild: no oil pressure! And the dirt wasn’t even visible when I opened the pump up.

On the other hand, I’ve been riding and fixing my 650 since 1992 and never had an oil pump problem.
