Model 7 Reserection

The question is if any of those bullet connectors are oem stock though,
so something later that can be applied to the job ?

They are not in the Lucas bible of the early 50s, that I have found yet anyway.
Although it could do with a good indexing system.
A searchable pdf may be even better....

Fuel Tank back from the panel beater I am very happy with the job.

Now off to the polisher.

Unusual to see chrome that requires polishing these days.
That must mean its a deep heavy coat of old fashioned chrome....

It's still bare metal, the polisher will polish the exposed [seen] area before applying the chrome, I have managed to borrow a tank to copy.

That explains the interesting looking finish !

Once-upon-a-time, chrome used to look like that coming out of the plating tank.
They then laboriously ground it back smooth and polished it.
Produced a very thick coat of chrome.

Probably like that original finish tank has, although with unusual colour scheme.

Some schemes have a more rounded like to the lines at the front on the top of the tank.... ?

Several years ago I purchased a set of second hand mufflers that I have had re chromed and last year I purchase a set of headers from Feked in England so anyway it was time to see if they fitted, after some persuasion I have the system fitted though the headers are not spot on but will do for now-

Looking better than new!
+1 & As is with the other builds that you have posted up here before, the quality is plain to see! Thanks for posting

Now that Christmas has been and gone I have been able to get out to the garage and finish my project, I have had a bit of trouble with the plastic badges that I got from the NOC spares, they are too flat for the 7 tank and I suspect that originally there may have been a slightly more rounded badge for the 7 but as the badges was only used for one year finding a set would be like finding a dodo's egg so a heat gun was used to get them to fit. oil and fuel added but as this bike hasn't been going since 1976-

there were going to be problems- the carburettor float would not close as it was touching the tickler adding a fibre washer fixed that, as the motor had been recond it initially hard to kick over fast enough to start so I borrowed a friends starting rollers an she fired up within 3 revolutions, a run around the block and with a few adjustments she starts first kick and runs great, I will not say she is finished as I am sure some teething problems will arise but it is "close to being finished".

Very nice job, and with the old sticker you should be able to keep the original rego plate.
Will you be at Mahia, would be good to see it at the rally.

Thanks Ian, yes I have the original plate and ownership papers so hopefully re vinning won't be a major but will wait until the xmas new-year thing calms down a bit, sorry won't be at Mahia as changed jobs later last year so don't have any holidays owing but wish everybody all my best.
Cheers Al

Changing the subject slightly Al, that red ES2 of yourn could well be a factory colour - I've seen other pics and tales of red ES2's,
and there were some (featherbed) dommies in that colour about then too, have you enquired of the NOC records what they say about that particular one ?

Have you delved down under the red, to see if there is any previous trace of stove enamelling, that stuff is difficult to remove entirely....
And, being originally stoved enamelled, there won't be any sign of undercoat.
If there is, it has been refinished for sure...

Thanks Rohan, yes I have written to NOC records and obtained a certificate but it doesn't list a colour, I have also posted a question on NOC Singles site, once I get the ES2 on the bench and start stripping it then it will show its tru colour.
Cheers Al

Hi Possm

Seems you and I (Possum) are getting confused.

If the Model 77 image was sold into NZ about 8 years ago, the former owner lost touch after the Christchurch earthquake & would like to make contact again.

Please advise

Possum (with a 'U')
