The hose coming off the top of my oil reservoir just goes down and vents toward the road. Is this ok? Should I do something else?
Thanks<

It would normally be attached to the back plate of the original filter assembly. This would re-circulate any vapors through the engine. But as LAB stated use a catch bottle.

.Edit. Sorry you stated M111...not sure on that one but it should be routed the same as 72-74 years.

Edit:
Yes it's a Mk3, so it would have had the black plastic airbox. The tank breather pipe would have gone to the oil separator.

Have no idea if this is a good idea, but it has worked for me. Run a hose up over the main frame backbone at the rear of the gas tank; then down the angled frame rail at the front of the left side cover; then across the battery box area and back up the frame rail on the back of the left side cover. This is then vented to the atmosphere through a mini air filter something like the one below (mine is actually cone shaped, sourced from AutoZone). This is all zip tied where necessary, and the filter is in the area between the frame rail and the fender.

The arrangement has been clean for me, i.e., haven't had any oil come out of the vent/filter. This follows a venting arrangement I used to see on Triumphs back in the day (may not have been right then?), and avoids the direct path oil-out but dirt-in from a plain vent tube hose hanging down. I attribute (with no evidence to support it) no oil out being due to the small rise the hose takes over the main frame backbone.

knew a guy way back who put that hose coming off the oil tank in a "catch bottle"

and he tightly sealed the plastic bottle around the hose

and because he had effectively blocked the air flow, within one mile of taking off oil was puking out of every seam

moral: ok use a catch bottle, but then vent the catch bottle!

Did the same as lbridges with K&N vent filter from Summit Racing. Dangles behind transmission.

those little vent filters are cheap and available from almost all auto supply stores. been using that set up for years with no ill effects
