Hi, I just had a thrilling ride, the rear wheel locked up at about 40mph. The RH bearing on the rear wheel exploded, tilting the cush, hub, and all that. the rotor was jammed up in the caliper.

I was only about 1/2 mile out and was able to free it up enough to limp it home. The bike is sitting in the sun right now, I'm hoping that the heat will remove the Big Pucker mark on the seat.

What I was wondering is if there are other options are for these bearings? Is there a NAPA part number on these things? Or any aftermarket bearings that will fit? Sealed bearings? I would rather run to town and pick some up than have to order them and have the bike down for God only knows how long.

The bearings I need are in my parts book as: 06-5541 , 06-5542 , 06-7688(aka:NM17721).
Thanks and Ride Safe!

Good Grief  Bet you're glad that doesn't happen every day ?

You should be able to find bearings at a good bearing stockist. You've nothing to loose by taking the old ones along.

I find the best way to remove the Mk111 bearings is with a kettle of boiling water poured into the open end. It stays there long enough to let them come out easily.

If you haven't done it before, don't believe the factory manual. The cush drive lock ring is NOT a left hand thread. I found that out the hard way.

The old bearings are out already, No problem there. I have cleaned them up and they are ready to accompany me on my quest.

I have pretty much come to expect that no matter what part I am looking for (Home Depot, Autozone, etc.), The clerk behind the counter is not going to have any idea what I am talking about and start spewing forth bullshit. "Yes Sir! This starter will bolt right up to your truck, Trust me!"

I find that it is best to be armed with as much info as possible before even going to the store, just to avoid the frustration that is sure to come. I'm hoping that somebody out there has cross referenced these part numbers already and will share their knowledge.

The two wheel bearings are standard metric size, one 6203 (17x40x12) 1RS (1 rubber seal), and one 6204 (20x47x14).

The sprocket carrier NM 17721 is 17x40x16 double row ball bearing and the likely replacement type will be a 4203(B?) but check what your bearing supplier recommends and tell them what they are to be used for.

:D 6203, 6204, 4203. Those are numbers that I can use! Thanks L.A.B.

A quick trip to town, was able to pick up the bearings the first place that I stopped. I got her all put back together and just returned from a test ride.

All is good in my world once again. Mark

Yup.....great stuff. Been the route myself. Our hardware store used to have an owner that was so busy tanking up on his botle of schnapps in the back room, that he got ticked when a customer came in the store and no matter what I asked for...either he'd not have it in stock (when it was visible behind him on the shelf), they don't make those anymore (when I had one in the hand, I'd picked up from a shelf myself), or...the only one that I ever got any fun out of..."what type of vehicle is it for?".
That question got to be such a great oportunity to play with his mind...after all, it just didn't matter, I always got the same answer anyway. He wouldn't have known a Norton if it ran him over, so that answer had no purpose. Got so frustrated that I started to have a good answer for him before I entered the store. Rolls Royce.....Ferarri......what ever came to mind that was sure to get him confused.
After all...when you ask for a 10 mm bolt that is 4 cm long, with a nut and washer...and the idiot wants to know what it is going to be used for.....he's asking for it.
He's gone to the place where all bottle suckers go eventually, now...but hopefully, wherever he is...he is still trying to figure out about the screws he told me he didn't have, to fix the world war two fighter plane I found buried in our garden that I was fixing up to fly in an airshow and had it almost finished, but what did I do with the two skeletons I had pulled out of it and still had in cardboard boxes in the shed...etc...etc.....
