Mk3 hub sealed bearings

OK, so I'm disassembling my rear hub to remove the spokes (yes sometimes the lock ring with the holes is so loose you can unscrew it with you hands!, but that's another stupid story) and I noticed that the bearings appear to be sealed; one is marked "F837" and the other "F458". Did any Mk3's have sealed bearings? Did they all? In the front hub, one appears to be sealed the other not. Can I assume that the sealed ones mean that someone has been here before and replaced them?

MkIII manual, Section H.

One front (R/H) and one rear (L/H) MkIII wheel bearing had a seal (outer side only) originally.
