mk3 airfilter

Just replaced mine (MK2A but same foam on steel frame element in the black plastic box) and oiled it, it gets oiled by the breather anyway so just enough to get it started, I used chainsaw oil thinned in white spirits as its so sticky but check the foam does not react to what you use to thin the oil, if you thin at all.

That's a real good point about checking to see if fuel thinned oil would damage the foam filter element.
Perhaps an ethanol/oil mix would degrade the foam quickly.

I remember back when I ran the green foam K&N filters with the wire coil inside for shaping on twin Mikunis, the foam would degrade and flake off onto pants leg. Nasty material for an air filter. Works pretty good on lawn mowers, though most have gone to pleated paper filters.

It seems to oil itself from the re-circulation/ pollution control stuff. My last 2 filters didn't seem to last that long ,and disintegrated into dust fairly easily. I leave off the rubber intake caps which seem to strangle air intake. Why did they drill holes into the plastic surround anyways ????
