MK2A Caliper Drip tray?

Hi there
Can anyone help in identifying what this plate / tray is for that bolts to the underside of the frot brake caliper?
It's off my '74 MK2A and looks to be some kind of drip tray but would appreciate any advice.

It's a disc scraper. Fitted the wrong way around I believe (unless the brake has been moved to the left side and then it would only scrape the disc after it had passed through the pads)?

Are these a factory part ?

Can they be retro fitted to earlier bikes ?
Was there a bulletin or sevice note about this ?
