MK II Rear iso question

On the MkIII rear iso fitted to my MkII there is a spring clip under the gaiter on the left side, that sits on the adjusting holes. I cannot figure out what the heck this spring clip is supposed to do?

lol, I don't understand it's purpose either seeing as it's on the end without the setscrew...what is it holding? I put them on though like the book says to do. :roll:
 
The spring clips are there to prevent the adjuster holes filling up with dirt, as far as I know?
 
Well, I was thinking of that (dirt in holes) but then I thought that the gaiters serve that function. But maybe not as well as hoped? The reason I ask is that I am putting a new buffer assy (already ordered and on the way from OB) in the mount and I have misplaced that spring clip (though it's probably in a trash can here somewhere. So I was trying to figure out whether I could get by without it or not.

I don't think the Iso. gaiters are intended to completely cover the adjusters (and therefore the adjuster holes)? http://britmoto.com/manuals/Manuals/850_man.pdf - Section F16, Fig. F21

So I got one of the clips for the rear iso. You can see it on the left.

I did not put one on the front, the Old Britts site did not call out for 2. Dunno why.

There is a groove in the adjuster for the small end the gaiter to sit. That leaves the adjuster holes exposed. I'm sure many people pulled the gaiters out to cover the adjuster holes but I suspect that would compromise the ability of the gaiters to protect the isolastics.
 
Yep, I see and agree that the gaiter is not supposed to cover the adjuster holes. I'll look on the floor and in the trash! It's here somewhere! ;)
 
Of all the Nortons I've worked on and owned, about half had them, half didn't.

I've never had a problem inserting an adjuster peg after a quick spritz of WD40.
 
I agree with GP as well - that it couldn't really be much of a problem. But I found the clip! :)
