The MK 3 has a spring and piston that alleviates sumping
It is located behind the Rocker relief nut on timing cover

My MK 3 has been sumping and it likely the spring is fouled or worn
Is it possible to remove and clean/replace this assembly by simply removing the relief nut without having to remove the entire timing case and ignition

No. The "non-return" plunger [41] and spring [42] are not accessible from the OPRV, as the piston [28] and spring [29] inside the OPRV are different components, so the timing cover must be removed.

Easy? Well it's not too difficult, fun? Well as the song says "happiness is a versatile word".

I'm happy. Great x-mas with broken Norton Kicker Leg end of season and Dad went to the other side. Enjoy.
