My bike sat & wet sumped so before ridding again I drained the primary to make sure it was to full. This time it had a slight smell of gear oil so I will be ordering a seal from Dyno Dave and will clean the plates when I get it. Question-- I drained & refilled the primary but still feel a little slip on hard acceleration. Will this slight contamination burn off & get better or just get worse? I want to ride it this week & clean the plates when I get the seal next week. Thanks.

I would think the residual from burning off the oil on the disks by using them will tend to glaze them over rendering them irreversibly contaminated.
It would be best to get them clean.

Hey gtsun,
I doubt that the slip will cure itself, it has never happened for me.
If the plates are old you might be up for a set.
If you have a clutch tool, wip the cover off and have a look at the plates, then you can clean them and or order a new set.
AC.

Thanks guys. I guess I no what I'm doing after work tomorrow. My clutch was super strong before this smell of gear oil came about so I will try to clean the plates. I can bead blast the steel plates if that's a good idea, never did it before but I didn't know any better before either.

Blasting may be best but I've never had an issue just sanding to clean new surface. It don't take much. In pinch I've done em on nice sections of cement floors. Main thing after clean is stack height, so just allows the spring to slip right into slot about as its just touching the plates. No pressure to push in and nil slack to go in further.
Buy at least two clutch locating circlips, every time you buy them.

what plates do you have? barnett or the original bronze plates? Pretty hard to make the bronze ones slip.

I had to shit can the barnetts in my bike and go back to the bronze when I brought it back to life. Just could not get those barnetts to work right.

I don't know what plates are in it. I've had this bike for two years and so far I haven't needed to go into the clutch but now that I am going into it I'm tempted to fit the Sparx 200 watt stater & rotor and replace the chain with a new one. One thing allways leads to another!
