Surflex fibre clutch plates for unhardened Commando clutch basket.

I recently found an eBay trader in Holland that advertised Surflex fibre plates that I had thought were now impossible to get for my 1972 model which, as far as I’m aware, does not have a hardened clutch basket.
However, when they arrived there was clear evidence that the plates have a metal core. Previous posts mentioned that this is aluminium but is that still safe to use with an unhardened basket?

Yes They are aluminum centers with glued on friction pads. Who ever you get them from, Just be sure to ask if they are Aluminum , A year or so ago they made a batch with steel centers. Do you buy off of Ebay in the USA?

Thanks for the info. I have bought stuff before from The States especially CNW parts but normally stick to UK/Europe for eBay because of postage/tax.
 
Barnett plates are great. I run them in my 920 and 1007. Wouldn’t use anything else.

I have Surflex plates in mine, and apart from the squeal as I release the (dry) clutch, they are fine.
If you already have them, have you tried a magnet on them?
And again, if you have them already, maybe you would be better to fit the superb CNW hardened clutch centre, which Holland Norton Works stock?
