Is there a particular reason that you don't use or like the SU?

I converted to a single VM a couple of years ago, mainly because it was a bunch cheaper than a pair of Anals, and the stock carbs were causing idling woes. The fuel enrichment system makes starts very dependable, and it returns a consistent 57-59 mpg (US). It definitely does chop anything above 90 mph, however. I've had a re-think as of late; the Pazon Altair has returned such a beautifully stable idle that I'm thinking of putting the twin Amals back on (I like the way they look).

Just never got around to fitting it ,but from what I have read you can get very good mpg from them
And they don't like starting unless the tank is more than half full , I have around 3 maybe 4 kicks in me because of a knee problem I can't really have a bike that's hard to start

I ran one for years and intend to re-install it when I get it ultrasonically cleaned (it sat for a while with crappy ethanol gas in it). Good performance and amazing gas mileage. I never had a problem starting mine, usually one or two kicks from cold and first time when warm. I had no problems with low fuel starting either though I have heard of people having problems with both of those things.

I planned to do the lawn mower primer conversion that was featured in the owners club magazine to mine but I just don't have time at the moment

Baz, do you know the date of that article by any chance? For the fun of it I'd like to have a go at an S.U. conversion (and i'm a tightwad, so the thoughts of 80+ MPG are appealing)

HI - an old post but wondering if you managed to fit the TM34 and if there was an improvement? I have a VM34 on the bike I am putting back together, but need to spend a bit on the carb already, and wonder if it's going to be worth spending the few extra $$ and getting a TM instead. Thanks

Not yet. Other issues I have to deal with. I was going tp form the Procrastinators Society of Australia but haven't quite got around to it yet. For some reason.

Imagine if Amal adopted the Mikuni pilot system ...a slight redesign of their carb body and then a far more reliable carb. And happy customers.

Don't forget Amal designed the mikuni VM as far as I know?
