I don’t think the @username thingy does anything unfortunately. I was going to suggest @swooshdave as I know they are friends,but he’s not a VIP member either.

All you get is an alert (the little bell symbol) that someone has been talking about you. You didn't get that?
Try it on me. You type the @ symbol then start typing the members name. After you've typed a few characters a drop-down list should appear for you to select the member you want.

It probably does work then @robs ss its the same ‘bell’ you get for other things like folk replying to you posts etc, I thought it was that.
 
Apologies folks, I’d tested the @cliffa notification function, and didn’t get anything, but it seems it doesn’t work to your own user I.D.
