We only had the two BBC channels (eventually, IIRC BBC2 had little to interest youngsters and was broadcast evenings only??) as my father was vehemently opposed to 'commercial' TV....
Do remember the TV repair man heating up his soldering iron in the fire grate, though!
(And that's not a Benny Hill euphemism! )

Oh !! the good old days .. Can't ever remember a TV repairman coming to the house , most likely because my dad wished to fix things on his own even though he had no clue what lay in wait ... I do remember most vividly taking a handful of tubes many times over and going up the street to the pharmacy / convenience store to test the tubes when our tv would quit .. Much like testing a spark plug . Find the faulty tube , grab a new one from the cabinet below the tester , pay and head home . Fifteen minutes later the tv was working .

Ours may well have been rented, as many were back then.

Still laughing about the TV stations on offer as a kid. We had three of which one showed a clear picture.

Three channels?
Luxury!
Only two when I was a lad (mostly) BBC and ITV (no BBC2 until later) and our telly would only pick up ITV.

Whilst exchanging New year pleasantries with the young postman earlier he spotted my Norvil Commando and watched me fire it up,
"Wow What is that ! " , I explained and told him it was built in 1974, "Jeez , my dad was born that year ".
He said he would Google Norton as he had never heard of it, Kind of makes you feel a bit old .

My old man used to belt the top of the tv into submission , always seemed to work after that (until the next time )

Not really it was good year I just left school at 15 and 2 years later I bought my new 74 Commando old stock sitting at the back of the show room with all the 75 M111 in front of it and near $500 cheaper, it was the last 74 they had all black and I still own it, but its a bit different today lol, $1999 on the road when I bought it.

A whole generation has grown up not knowing the frustration of losing your vertical hold et al...
Plus the added inconvenience of a set so physically large that you needed a spectator in front while you fiddled away behind to let you know when or if the picture had returned to normal....

We actually had ONE good channel, one that was clear and didnt fade out. Of the other two, one was on
good nights only. The other slightly better. Slightly. Sometimes....
Ah, YOUTH!

Will the BBC still be wheeling out Moira Anderson, Andy Stewart and Kenneth McKeller for tonight's viewing?
(Men in dresses.... who'da thunk!!)
Probably will, but not the Black & White Minstrels.
Doesn't Moira Anderson read the news now?

How can she nearly read the news, perhaps she does the weather?!

Oh dear, off topic again.
A nut allergy is a serious thing in this day and age....
But yes, in the spirit of the original post, 'best of' to all here, and hopefully the 'protect yourself' thread will fade through lack of relevance next year too.....

...and 'ghosting' from reflected signals...

Still have a TD160 with an SME3009 arm. Havent used it this century, until my daughter wanted to try it. It works well, but I think she has already tired of turning the LPs over after 20minutes.

Did find some strange things in the record box, The Doll? dont remember buying that...

That's so true. Where are the servants when you need them... :)
