I found pieces of the mainshaft bushing in the bottom of the gearbox. It seems that about a 1/4" moved inward and got chipped off. The inboard bushing is tight inside the gear, the outboard bushing slides back and forth. The book calls for two bushings and it appears to have 3 bushings. This gearbox has never been opened and has been working great. I went to change the oil and discovered the bits in the bottom. Since this is a 1974 MK2A and still had the Portuguese layshaft bearing, I ordered a new one and received a ball bearing instead of the usual roller replacement...is this what is being used now?
