Mac 2 into 1

I had one of those on my MK3 for a while back in the late '70s, but painted, not chromed. It worked well enough. I used it on the street, and also for some local club races. The bike wasn't that great as a race bike, so I converted it back to street use only.

Yep, I had one as well. Never ran it. Got it in a giant 7-bike lot deal...

Someone talk me out of buying this.

Ok…

If your bike has a standard tuned motor, and if it has stock pipes with peashooters on, then this pipe will almost definitely:

1. Reduce power, most likely somewhere in the mid range.

2. Sound nowhere near as good as your peashooters.

3. Possibly cause you to spend all summer screwing around with jetting.

4. Cause more work next winter, when you change it all back.

Thank you for your opinion. I’ve got the bike running great right now with no problems at this point and don’t want to introduce any new probs. I am running a single Mikuni so I really can’t afford a detune in the mid range along with the loss of top end power. And yes I love the sound of my peashooters! I think I’ll pass on the 2 into 1 and save my money for a nice, expensive Corbin seat. The only reason I was on the fence with this is that it would look really cool painted black. Looking cool is nice only if it runs as cool as it looks.

I just posted it because it was there. Thirty + years ago I tried out some no name 2 into 1 on the 850. Too restrictive, loss of power, too quiet, and I lost my center stand. On the 96 HD FXSTC 80 cu in, I slapped on a Patriot 2 into 1 exhaust. It's special feature was it had a flapper which you could adjust to achieve the desired backpressure. or noise. The flapper bypassed the muffler material. If you closed it all the way the bike ran like a sick puppy, but was quiet like a Honda. The Harley had no center stand to lose. The HD ran best with the flapper 7/8 open, definite increase in HP and torque, and sounded like a drag bike. 80 FPT and 81 HP. I guess it was kind of like a tunable exhaust.
