Does it matter if the stator is mounted reversed ? Will it still make power or does the rotor and stator have to be in the right orientation?

Hi jimbo.
It doesn't matter - it still produces AC current.
Best to have the magnets central to the stator for maximum output.
Ta.

The original orientation is for the stator wires to come out away for the crankcase. If you reverse to the crankcase side make sure the wire doesn't get wacked by the primary chain (or belt if you have that).

I reversed mine by mistake once and the chain wiped out the wire where it exits the stator.
