I recently saw an ad for Lucas PFB headlight bulbs. Are these something new or the same as 50 years ago? If new, what is special about them?

Thanks,
Ed

Do you mean BPF (British Pre-Focus)?

If so then it's for an original headlamp and not something new unless it's a 'Halogen' or another modern type of replacement bulb.

LAB,
What does Pre-Focus mean?Is it something they do to the bulb?
Thanks,Mike

I think it goes back to the old days, when electric lighting was new and there was a need to adjust the position of the bulb in the reflector to achieve the best beam focus.
BPF was a progression from this, in that the position of the bulb in the reflector is fixed and, therefore, 'pre-focused.' It may also refer to the fact that the lens is moulded in a particular way to focus the beam.
Something of that sort, anyway :)
Others may know better........
