Hello............
I read of an upgraded timing chain for the 850's that is vastly superior to the stock chains.
Is there someone out here in the forum world who knows where I can acquire one? Thank you again!
Final question. Is the camshaft endplay confirmed with the timing gear installed and torqued?
Thank you

I have an iwis final drive chain and an iwis starter chain on my Alton starter
I have never thought about an iwis replacement for a timing chain? Is there a need to upgrade it?

I have all IWIS chains but based on some comments elsewhere you might want to be careful with the duplex primary which has to be the big pin Mercedes Benz diesel spec. (Maybe there are two specs but do not know for a fact)
The Kiwi dude riding his Commando around the world posted having to adjust his IWIS duplex multiple times in the first 500 miles >IIRC< Someone in the US (He was heading to South America next) gave him a good OEM triplex to replace it. (again IIRC)
I ground the other teeth off the clutch hub and reduced the front sprocket to duplex width so triplex is not an option now. (on those parts)

For the side cover decal not level brigade, those non thin wall tensioner nuts were temporary.
I figured if I was going to replace the chain why not use one that would see me out and be known German quality in IWIS.

Tension adjusted with the crankshaft pinion removed.

Looking for the upgraded timing chain

Using the Iwis Mercedes simplex chain as the timing chain has 2 advantages.

In a new build as the chain is supplied run in or pre stretched you can forget the 1000 mile re-tension. (if you fit a new later rubber lined tensioner then the initial wear in the rubber will create a need for a re-tension)

As the pin size and the material is high spec the on going wear rate is greatly reduced so no need for Auto tensioner mods.

I been running a auto timing chain adjuster for over 35 years never had a problem at all with adjusting my timing chain.

Never had a problem/never heard of any problems with the OEM timing chain. Sounds like another solution for which there is no problem... ;)
There has been an awful lot of racing done with standard cam/timing chains.

I wasn't happy with the HD IWIS and returned it to Jason's dad Andy! It had tight spots from the first installation.

I currently have a standard IWIS fitted and an AN supplied spare in the parts box. I would be happy running either. Mick Hemmings supplied me a Regina cam chain knowing it was a race motor, it was fine till end of life.

This motor will spend more time over 7000rpm than any road bike.

I think people are hoping that with an HD part they can ignore checking chain tension! Not Smart.

Are these still available?? would appreciate to know the supplier?
I bought mine over 35 years ago but I think Cozmos makes a auto chain adjuster not sure, I have the paper work somewhere in my shed if I find it I will put it up, its been so long since I had my timing cover off, last time was when replacing my crank cases a very long time ago.

Comnoz recommended the timing change as an alternative to the stock chains.
