You might note the pix at the top of the thread shows a disc brake and 200,000 series engine and roadster side covers. It is very likely an enthusiasts custom build and not a authentic LR.

DD, I believe that is an Australian delivered bike and the LR was listed for 1971 and 1972 so even a LR Combat is a possibility but of course with the larger fuel tank back in the day you would have got to the first engine rebuild quicker.
I am sure Fredful could ask the owner if it is close to as delivered.

I would accept anything is possible considering that particular LRFB is in a different market.
The fiberglass tank interstate was here (US) very early in the 200000 series. They seemed to all come with the full size interstate side covers.

Indeed but I think no fastback had those side covers for sure.

I certainly agree there about the 200000 series (72) fastback. As 30 years ago there were both roadster or fastback style roadster oil tank side covers. Roadster covers color matched the FB tank and fastback were always black gel coat.
At least thats what I had seen. No original 73 fastbacks ever noted here, AFAIK, since the big square tail light would not work on the tail section.

On FarceBook someone posted of steel fastback side covers, true or wishful thinking.
I do have one NOS FB fibreglass side cover, its mate is out there somewhere.

'Early' Fastbacks had a steel LH cover but RH was the oil tank so no early RH cover.
Later Fastbacks had the triangular oil tank and a cover each side.

Quite correct:
While I was mentioning 200000 series (combat breather) they of course used the roadster oil tank. I have a borrowed set of factory black gel coat FG side covers and I own a set I bought many years ago from Fairspares now norvil. They were both curved/not flat from the over tight curing in the mold.
I now own a series1 FB oil tank and hope one day to acquire the matching steel side cover.
My plan is to make a FG FB tank, since I already made molds 20 years ago, but have now found a proper E10 proof(not just resistant) resin.

It occurs to one that the L R Tank was about the only one without the cheap horrible exposed seams .:p

And if anyone wanted to get a bit individual building one for a Commando , they could base it on the shallower version
of the Atlas Tank . Maybe someone can photoshop one on one .

Love that tank

Hi John
It may well be likely that the "majority" of LR fastback went to OZ but certain not exclusive...
In our club in NE, we only have one LR that I am aware of, out of over 100 norton owners, which covers maybe 200 or more machines... mostly commando of course. It seems they were a short term fill-in before the regular Interstate. Plus, maybe a way to get rid of excess atlas/featherbed tanks.

Not many in the US probably for the same reason not many 750 SS. I believe we have two in the Northern California club.
