Restoring a '74 Norton 850 Commando MKII, and trying to get the correct placement of the horn. There is a picture in the electrical "J" section of my workshop manual, but this does not seem correct. I found a Lucas 12 v - 9H horn and it appears to be the correct one. The horn bracket lines up with the two side by side holes in the back of the battery tray and the rear fender attach holes.
(picture below shows where I think it should go)

Is this the correct location and orentation ? If so, I believe I will need longer bolts (at top on the horn bracket) and maybe spacers to attach the fender.
Appreciate any help from someone who has fitted this properly.
Thanks

On my original Mk.111 the horn outlet was on the opposite side, but does it really matter ?

Mine is mounted to the blanking plate where the Prestolite starter motor used to reside.

Also, whilst in there, ensure that you either lock tight or use another method to ensure the nuts holding the triangular shape bracket are well tight. The reason being it saves the expenditure of nasty words in the future if you need to remove just the rear mudguard securing nuts as you do not want them turning with the bolt.

Thank you for your posts. Really appreciate you taking the time to comment. No one here to discuss these questions with, so very important to be able to tap into this forum and get feedback from others with experience.

Scott if you in Phoenix you can go to space age auto paint store in Mesa on country club south of Broadway I think. The owner has a John player in the store on display or at least it was still there a year ago. And he won't sell it.
