leaky petcock fitting

was getting ready to fire up my 1st norton, a '72, when the leak changed my plans. it's a fiberglass roadster tank and it's leaking from the integral tamk fitting. it's obviously been repaired w/some sort of fiberglass that didn't do the trick. can i repair this or have it repaired? what material is used for this type of fix? i've a source for avgas 100 and that's what i filled it with. this was a hurdle i never anticipated. it's taken me 3 months to get this bike presentable w/ a lot of obstacles to overcome for a newguy. i'll call the local boat guy and see if he can seal it up. i can see my new paint job being knocked around. woe is me! thanx, rick
 
I had to replace my fiberglass tank with a steel one, because the ethanol in the new gas ate through my 'glass tank, even after a caswell treatment (turned the caswell into a peeling, rubbery mass).
 
i'll try to get one up tonight. one side has a fitting that's flush to the bottom side of the tank. that's the good side. the bad side has what looks like a recess of about a 1/2". then it looks like there are threads into the fiberglass itself. i'll get a pic up tonight.
 
here's a bad pic. i'll post a better one tommorrow. they didn't drill/tap the tank to accept the threaded insert.

You have to do the job like a dentis would plug a bad tooth. With fiberglass, it is easy to open up the hole biggeruntil you get to good material, then make a "holder" for your insert, out of wood or an old fuel tap to keep it in place, then just lay new fiberglass over the whole thing. Do it little by little, too much resin will just go solid on you without you being able to use it.
