I lost the number to the replacement layshaft bearing that was recently posted in a thread here. I think it was Jim that posted a link to the bearing. I looked around and there were three different numbers referenced and I want to order the right bearing for replacement this winter. I am looking for the best replacement possible, sorry to bring this up again and thanks.

It is an NJ203. Letters on the end of the number will designate the materials used for the cage and may differ with manufacturers. I like nylon or brass. Jim

6203 type. They say to stay away from a steel cage. Same size as the wheel bearing but open with polyamide cage. As Jim said, the NJ203-c3 is encouraged but pricey.

NJ203E C3 is a higher rated bearing, the E stands for extra load and has barrelled rollers also known as superblends.

Preferably NJ203 as an 'NU' roller bearing has no inner spool lip.

(An alternative is the FAG 6203TB phenolic cage ball bearing)

Thanks for catching that LAB.

The salesperson at QBC had assured me that their NU bearing was interchangable with the NJ. That is Not so.

I have found the only people making the roller bearing in the correct configuration at this time is SKF and FAG in Europe.

Here is where the correct SKF is available in the US

Thanks for the direct link, makes it easy......hmmm, maybe you could come by and install it for me as well.

It was kinda fun. 1400 mile drive just to work on a Norton for a few hours and ride it around St. Louis for a while and then turn around and go back home.
