Lansdowne Fork Damper Kit (2009)

Perhaps a silly question but if one leg has all the compression damping and the other rebound, isn't the effect under either loading similar to running with oil in one leg only ?

Is a fork brace recommended ?

I've certainly heard of this type of damper arrangement being used before on other forks, although I can't remember exactly which ones.

Isn't everything likely to try and twist ?

I feel that the results must speak for themselves.

If any adverse reaction is being caused by the un-equal damping arrangement, then I certainly haven't noticed it?

Many modern bikes use this arrangement, where adjustment to compression is done on one fork, and rebound on the other. My Speed Triple is set up this way, which is a budget way of making adjustable forks. Works great.

Triumph's Street Triple has the same setup, but the Street Triple R has fully adjustable forks and some other bits (and about a $1500 higher price tag)

Hi .In thinking the arrangement "attempts to twist" if thats the correct term, The wheel spindle?..Frame? ..not sure what's implied here...Twist means an axal distortion. ie "we twist a rope". or "Bends"? the dampers bend something?..and if they are...what? Lost me there sorry/// lots of modern bikes use rebound in one side, compression the other..not read any reports regarding twisting...BUT IF YOU THINK ONE LEG AS TO HANDLE THE UP FORCE,AND THE OTHER THE DOWN FORCE,,,YOU ARE CORRECT. BUT,,and here's the issue,as the forks are bolted together by the wheel and spindle, and allso supported by the wheel / bearings...and would require thousands of pounds to move these in differant directions. Infact to do this the spindle will have to bend. The much.much smaller rebound .compression force's acting upon said wheel spindle [via the dampers]cannot and will not ..bend a 15mm hi tensile spindle.. when set up the rebound /compressional force"s are approx 20-30 kg.. Wheel spindle steel approx 20 tons tensile! No brace required...just a good fitting hole in your sliders CRANKSHAFTS PUT UP WITH THOSE TORSIONAL FORCE'S BECAUSE THEY ARE STRONG ENOUGH TO RESIST THE TWIST. There is hundreds and hundreds of pounds trying to snap off your brake mountings , and well worth a mention....a single sided disc puts tremendus strain on twisting the forks .or correctly trying to bend the stanchion,, infact the braking action lock's the forks by forcing the topbush hard against the stanchion,,allso the slider is now attempting to spin forward ...worried? You can rest assured....Duncans not noticed anything twisting. or BENDING.....Best regards John

Hi To all. As any one used p.t.f.e fork bushe's ? If so do they resist the effect's of oil, causing them to swell? :?:

Hello John

re ptfe and oil
ptfe has been used for years on high pressure hydraulic systems with mineral or synthetic oils eg shell tellus without problems
usually as piston and rod seals where a ptfe ring provides the bearing surface of the seal with a nitrile rubber backing ring which "energises" the seal ie keeps it in contact with the wall of a cylinder or surface of a piston rod.
Also, bearing surfaces of pistons etc in hydraulic cylinders are porous bronze loaded with ptfe eg "glacier"bearings
there's lots of info on the internet google hydraulic seals
have I tried it? not in motorbikes but 40 years in railway testing labs with hi-pressure servohydraulic systems.
By the way, be careful maching ptfe, it forms poisonous fumes if swarf is ignited, same as WW1 poison gas!
Any help?
