To remove the Lansdowne dampers can I leave the adjustments as they are and remove the tops from the stanchions, will the damping/compression be the same when I reassemble? or do they need backing off and readjusting all over again when reassembled?
Also is there anything to watch out for when removing the damper rods from the tops, I remember a damaged or seized one mentioned here a few weeks ago, thanks in advance for any info.
Paul.

Just make a note of how far each damper adjuster is from the 'closed' position and re-set to the same figure after reassembly.

By "rods" I presume you mean the damper assemblies (as the Lansdowne damper rods don't come out separately) in which case, the complete assemblies should lift out after removing the damper retaining bolts.

Thanks for the reply LAB. So it's a front wheel off job then, I thought I didn't recall doing much assembly when they went in, but I've slept since them :) .
It's a bit of a big job, I only want to get my clockholders off!! Might aswell plan in some other front end jobs at the same time.
Just like to endorse John's excellent product once again while were on topic, and wish him well with his current ailment.

Ah, well, in that case, it isn't necessary to remove the complete damper assemblies, only the cap bolts and damper adjuster needles (ensuring they go back in the same place).
