The Vintagent (Paul d'Orleans and co.) is curating quite an exhibit, the "Custom Revolution" show, which is opening at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles on April 13, 2018. NYC Norton was asked if we could put in one of our race bikes for the show, with the only directive by The Vintagent and Petersen of, "make it good". Yes. Yes we can.

We happened to be finishing a spectacular NYC Norton Seeley G50 replica, but we knew our black racing livery might not meet the "Custom Revolution" criteria. So we reached out to Brent Budgor of The Vintage Vendor and asked if he could help. Brent does great work on Commando tanks and sidecovers, but he's good with the one-offs too. After days of discussion (I've never dipped so deep into the philosophical trappings of shades of blue - and my hair is now very gray), we came up with a motif, and Brent went on his way.

It was a gamble on our part to paint such a badass race bike in such a striking shade, but the end result is spectacular. Brent is great to work with, particularly on a job like this, because of his very good level of communication which was necessary to get this right. Once we had the agreed upon color/motif, he took over. When I saw the bodywork in person I was even happier than I expected. It was beautiful, crisp, and deep. I have to give Brent props - he came through in a pinch, has done it for us before, and I know he'll do it again.

If I had enough money, I would buy one. The Seeley G50 was the best ever British 500cc single cylinder racing motorcycle. It is great to see them being re-manufactured. Somebody should do similar with the Aermacchi 350 Ala D Oro.
