The one thing that really bugs me about my bike is that the kickstart rubber keeps slipping off.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to hold these on reliably?

I ground the end of mine flat, drilled and tapped it and have fixed a large OD stainless washer on with a button head socket screw.

I keep meaning to make something neater but the principle works 100%

Fit a new kickstart rubber each year?

Although my Commando doesn't seem to suffer with that problem, my Trident T160 does, or it did, until I started replacing the lever rubber each year.

I had that problem on my 750 and fixed it by fitting a new Mk3 kickstart lever assemby. The old one had a twist on the arm, causing the pedal to angle down slightly when in kicking position. I had a lot of trouble with my foot slipping off and the rubber coming off.

Problem solved now! Expensive fix, but it worked. And the new lever doesn't hit my mufflers.

I have three old style levers gathering dust in the shop, and they're all bent in that manner. They make nice paperweights.

I replaced the rubber after having the old one come off and the lever do a number on my leg. MY only issue with it now is the foot peg keeps swinging open when i am riding and getting in my way.Is there a quick fix for that?

Easier solution is just to make a little spring washer (by bending a washer in a vise) and bolting it down. Someone on this forum put me onto that. Or you could use a nylon washer. It has solved my migrating lever problem. There was a previous thread or two on this.

Fred from Old Britts has some information on converting your kick start lever to a MKIII type with a ball-detent system to prevent it from moving out. This link should show pictures to help with it: http://www.oldbritts.com/ob_start.html

For starters I presume by footpeg you mean the swivel part of the top of the kickstart and not any form of rearsets or the rest of this post won't make any sense :(

If you can lock the peg by tightening the dometop nut on the kickstart then your halfway there.

Ensure you have a washer on top of the peg and use stud and bearing lock on the thread to the dometop nut and tighten so the peg moves just as you want it. Leave the nut to set and it shouldn't move to often. Mines been fine now for the last two years

Nithburg,

Fashioned a sort of Jesus clip, some call it a circlip. Found the blade mounting washer from and old circular saw, cut a "V" in it just enough so it would squeeze over the shaft at the end of the rubber. It's hardened and heavy so it won't distort. It's actually blued so it looks like it belongs there. Have not had any problems with the rubber coming off since.

Hey 79x100 I've seen your bike, far to clean to have patina

Yeah Gino but I have a mean streak and I don't throw away a rubber just because it's been used once. Certainly not a ribbed one with a Norton logo on it anyway

I shall have to see about the BBA. The kids have got a performance on at school and I'm still trying to get time off for good behaviour.
