My cheapo repo key switch has failed within a year. How good are the latest Lucas replacement key switches? Are they made in China like everything else or do they have quality standards?

i assume you mean ignition switch, i got a new "lucas" in the green box ign switch and compared it to a very little used 1974 switch, the "new" switch doesn't feel right, it has several intermediate positions which should not be there as you turn the key between the major positions.

i am now looking for a good deal on a used hondasukiwaki style switch to introduce some new genes into the electrical pool.

I had a repro switch fail and the new Lucas $80 OEM switch didn't last much longer. I don't think the "original replacement" Lucas switch is any better than a cheapo repro and neither compares to an original.

Do all the old switches go into the bin? I suppose as a group we should be saving this stuff so that we can put together good units out of all of the failed originals. They are pretty easy to work on.

Noooo... never the bin! There is always someone out there with a switch in worse shape than yours. (This is why my Dad and I both have overflowing garages and backyards.) Really, I don't see people fixing things much anymore.

I bought a rebuilt OEM Lucas switch on eBay for $30 a couple of years ago. Works perfectly. This is after buying
a repro switch for $50 that was too big for the mounting hole. I sent it back.

Yes, I had fitted one Cole Hersee on one of my Commando and a Pollak, the hole centre is a bit bigger , but I had made a custom made bracket for them , and they look much more robust and nearly the same price..........!

At one time we fixed most everything because we didnt have any money and because parts were hard to find. Now you can pretty much get anything for a Norton new. However I agree that a lot of so called Lucas stuff is just the same old offshore stuff in a green box. Lucas is just a name not
a factory.

I did the same thing as CanukNortonNut, and my switch is working like a dream now too. It was easy, and I quite enjoyed doing it. It's amazing to have the opportunity to work on these beautiful old parts.
