what are these holes for in the front iso mounts? One per side
just wondering

You win! See back around 1968, July 14th at 2:34 PM two Norton workers having had a few to many pints for lunch drilled them there. And bet each other that "30 some years from now a bunch of Norton nut cases would actually dedicate the"ye life to know why they are there" If you can find the two guys they owe you the prize.

That's a MkIII front mounting isn't it?

My MkIII's front mounting also has the same holes (they also show on the MkIII parts drawing), so I'm guessing the holes were intended as an easy way to identify a front mountng as being a MkIII 065510 "vernier" Isolastic type?

yes, mk3. I was thinking maybe they were planning to mount something there at one point?

Speed holes.

Oddly enough, I was just looking at those the other day wondering why the holes were there so you're not alone.

Hang a gremlin bell from one? Lord only knows why I've had my share of gremlins so far.

Hobot has managed to release at least 3 gremlins from each hole he's drilled SO FAR. He has a way to go yet...

Good thing he's still got more dill bits!

Its like my old BMX racing days. We had a quest to lighten every damn part on the bicycle.

Snicker and smirk all ya like, I know how much faster each part
could slung by hand before and after and what the bucket of
swarf took to clean and carry out : )

Inspiring to me but alas not drilled by me, yet.

Two things that I would never drill holes in:

1. Kickstarter
2. Sidestand

The few grams that you save aren't in no way worth the pain that will occur if those pieces fail.

You are observant and somewhat correct on the engineering alert
but only the side stand failed thank you. hobot

The bolt at ground end was because Peel's front sat 2" higher when unloaded
parked. Welded angle iron across fracture until totally removed next time.
Got a bit carried away or lazy to change drill size, so if wonder how much
is too much >>

Thanks L.A.B. for the link. I can garantee you, not one in ten of us in the U.S. would know what a Meccano set is. We would call it an Erector Set.

So, Mrs Peel is a "Meccano". Is that a religion or a nationality?

Some threads stay right on point and some meander. This on left the building.

The real question is why is the bike standing on the front wheel.
