I know this will not be of any interest to anyone restoring a P11 with stock parts. One little spec might be of a little interest to somebody, but I used a Harbor Freight caliper so the numbers are probably not that accurate. Anywho, I felt like writing about it anyway.

I have a RGM clutch in a P11 primary. In my case it required a bunch of handy work on both the inner and outer primary covers, but the one major thing that needs to be done is space out the outer primary cover. Not having a metal fabrication shop with a nice bandsaw made for use on thick metal I cut three 1/8" thick spacers out of aluminum flat sheet stock using a jig saw. Great except they are way too fiddly when getting into the primary cover for whatever reason. So I screwed them together with 3/8" stainless 6-32 screws. Now I can put the spacer on and it doesn't move when installing or removing the outer primary cover. Forgot to mention the 3 plates are now like one solid removable spacer plate. The 6-32 countersunk screws do not screw through the plates and into the inner primary cover.

While I was in there I was thinking I might as well replace the frictions and steel plates with the clutch plate pack I got from cNw to see if it makes any difference. Nothing really wrong with the RGM plates with very low milage, but I do have 1 friction that was chewed on by the alloy pressure plate when I had an unusual almost no clutch release issue requiring slipping the clutch a lot. Long story, not worth repeating. So... I measured the Barnett frictions cNw sells and they are thicker. 3.7mm versus 3.1mm RGM. Not a direct plate for plate swap, since the RGM clutch has more steels, so all I did was replace the friction the behind the pressure plate. Perfecto and I got a slightly lighter clutch pull. I could have replaced everything and it would have worked, but the cNw frictions are aluminum plates and I did not want to have to use a pick to dig them out. I use a magnet to get all the RGM plates out and it is simple.

For anyone that has recently installed a RGM belt clutch in a pre-Commando. The AT-10 belt I have whined about in the past does sort of break in and get less rigid and grippier on the pulleys after a few hundred miles and at least one good ride in anger. ;)
