The Super Bikers Races ran on ABC Wide World Of Sports in the late 70s to early 80s.
It was part road track and part dirt track.
Here is the 81 race.

People such as Eddie Lawson and Kenny Roberts found themselves at an advantage in Europe when there were loose surfaces in the corners at some race circuits. It is not a situation which occurs often. However when kids ride motocross, it teaches them where the brake levers and the throttle are and that is important. Also a major factor in road-racing is the competitive mind-set, motocross also develops that. What motocross does not teach you, is what to do when you get into a very high speed corner miles too fast and lose grip and still need to get on the gas to beat the other guy. My Plan B is always the crash stop - grab both brakes and stand the bike up then let go as soon as I reach the grass. Then ride it out and get the bike to the ground before I reach the fence.
