I hope my post is not seen as being political - itis not intended to make a political statement in terms of left or right. Itis just a different way of looking at things. Motorcycle safety is almost pure risk management.

I suggest there is one particular area in which Australia is a world leader -it is the area of RISK MANAGEMENT. Australia was the first country to have a national standard for risk management, and probably the first to have risk-based industrial safety laws instead of prescriptive. The unions in our construction industry recently received a productivity-based wage increase. Our social system was based upon adversarialism, however when unions do Job Safety Analyses prior to working, they are contributing to continual improvement. I suggest people should consider this in the context of Richard Wollf's video :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hyk_rnk81yk

No good for me being retired, my risk management is keeping my eyes peeled for cages, distracted drivers and people trying to run me off the road while riding, maybe I am self risk management, you need to get out more Al, on your bike.

I left risk management well alone a couple of years back after retiring ... yippee ... so wont read or watch any link on the topic ... Lol !!

Where I worked it was deemed a COMA Site by the Health and Safety Executive .... Control Of Major Accident Hazards

In practical terms ( Lol !! ) this meant having a buffer of several subordinates layered below you just in case the wad of paperwork failed.

These days I'm like Ash and use my senses to scan the road for potholes etc and to keep an eye on the antics of all the tossers using the same road as myself.

Al, with respect to your advanced age and experience, you are a small fish living in a small pond.
Where have you traveled & when?

Best regards, I hope to be an old duffer one day.

Potholes: came across a really bad one in our hire car heading north on Isle of Skye road last week: most of the carriage way and horrible thud as wheels hit the far side. Thankfully no damage apparent.
When we dropped the car off on Friday, they had 4 with punctures from Skye just this week. Also said they no longer supply spare wheels, as people steal them! So, a bit of a wait when in certain northern Scottish areas!

I loved Skye! Feasting on Haddock & Ale at the Applecross Inn! Hanging endless wheelies up the long hills near the base of Applecross Pass!

I love the UK , and I have been there two times. When I was kid, older people in Australia, used to call the UK 'home'. To me, when I was there it felt like home. Some of the houses are similar to those in older suburbs of Melbourne. I like the people because they are very correct - they have the manners we have lost.

I can tell you definitely haven't been to the UK in the last 10 years

“ The Land That Time Forgot “

… no I’m not talking about “ that bikini “ wrapping up a certain ladies tits or indeed those prehistoric creatures

Actually those folks Al is talking about are the indeed dinosaurs, a species long extinct.

One of my favourite films
It's based on a true story I believe
