decided to purchase a pair of the jrc carbs. tired of fighting the amals and rebuilding them w/ slide work was more than the jrc's cost me. got them from steadfast cycle and the guy i spoke w/ has a 750 commando w/ the jrc carbs. of course he loves them. so he's going to jet them/ his experience. he says i'm in for a big surprise performance wise. i hope it's not too big as the current version is way fast. we'll see.

a search yielded a couple posts on these carbs from '08. was wondering if anybody had any follow up? from what i can tell it's gotten a mixed response. they seem to require some tinkering but if you ride a commando you're well used to the tinkering.

thanx, rick

Mine are still a bit of a mixed bag. I seem to have gotten one bad one that has recently started leaking from the needle valve again in spite of my having adjusted floats and changed for new needles. I brought the bike back from a run and it began leaking again. Since I have been playing with other bikes i have not gotten back to it, maybe this weekend if my painted tank does not show up.
When they are working well they are very good.

well they came today. one looked ok on visual inspection the other had gaps on either side of the slide to the throat walls. the same one had been blend ground from the horn to the throat and measured oval at 26 to 30 mm. choke wouldn't hold open. idle speed springs were mismatched.

called the vendor and he said to return ay his expense and he'd hand pick a good pair for me. we'll see.

no info on installation/tuning. jrc web site has a little bit. this seems like it could be a good deal if it was just packaged properly and some rudimentary quality control was utilized.

That's my problem too. They could be good units with quality control.

Not these ones. They seem to be Chinese knock offs. If they were genuine Kehins it would be no problem.

Has anyone done a performance comparison; Keihin, JRC, Mikuni?

I've had friends that replaced theirs with S&S and gone back (HD Sportsters).

well the replacements have landed and cosmetically they're a lot better and included the o ring , fuel hose, a sad excuse for hose clamps. i called the vendor who, by the way made good on return shipping, w/ some questions. only answer i'm a little leery of is regarding the carb to o ring to manifold interface. the jrc site seems to say that a gasket should be used along w/ the o ring. vendor says you can do it either way but don't overtighten. i seem to recall reading that you could tourque the carb studs/nuts w/o the amal concern of warping the body. i'm dying to get these guys on and hopefully get a steady and repeatable idle, easier starting, and the strong performance advertised. unfortunately, i've gotta be away for a week so it'll have to wait. 3 days of steady rain here in southern indiana w/ 2 more to follow.

Mine seem to be doing ok now. If you have a bowl overflow problem pm me.

Hey Cookie and rick, did you have to change to a push/pull throttle setup or are they only the pull type?

They are only a pull, they return with a spring. Cable length might be the only problem on the throttle side.
