Yes, I went back and fixed it. Just not sure how long of a spacer to use without a reference.

The spacer is 3/16 of an inch thick. It's part number is 06-2170 which is the same spacer as one of the spacers used on the rear fender bracket.

At least it more or less lines up with the sidecover hole, seems like the pin bracket is too low...

Here is a picture of my original bracket. I measure 2 3/4 inch between the center of the mounting bolt hole and the top of the bracket. Another thing I found is that the rubber seat buffer part number (06-7791) fits in the bracket holes. I think that would be a nicer option than gluing rubber pads on the bracket. You would need to sand the buffers down to the desired thickness.

The JPN seat is going to be totally different from a stock seat, but thanx for the tip.

Another test-fit of the bodywork with the tank in place underneath; trying to see if this seat will work, I'm not liking the WIDTH of it at all...

Dirty front hub

THIS is why the front brake wasn't working. SOLID plugged hose

Original 2MC capacitor, seems to hold a charge as it should.

I scrounged around and found an identical rectifier, but in excellent shape instead of half the paint and stenciling flaked off. It's nice to have boxes of spares.

John Player Special restoration project

Cleaned up the flasher the best I could without removing stenciling; as it is, some of the model number is now nearly invisible. No matter, this side faces in to the clip that holds it in place.

Coil group clean & assembled. Norton factory shop manual shows the assimilator mounted like this, not on the side.

John Player Special restoration project

Coil group installed, head stead assembled & loosely in place for now.

1 intake boot was torn, but I had spares. Picked out the best 2 and washed these 4 bits up.

John Player Special restoration project

Airbox done with filter media and door foam in place.

John Player Special restoration project

Somewhat cleaner front hub; I need to figure out how to polish it without unlacing it.

Rear electrical group ready for the wiring harness.

John Player Special restoration project

Replaced main seal, installed sprocket & retainer. Also changed out the 2 o-rings for the camplate & quadrant.

John Player Special restoration project

Tranny inner cover nipped up, clutch ramp installed. It will get aligned when the cover arrives.

John Player Special restoration project

Can't seem to get rid of the green stains on the rubber booties of the electrical connectors, but I did clean the actual connectors and checked them all for snug fit.

Made up a stepped-down oiler tube to lube the swingarm...

140w topped off (took about 1/2 hour)

I was looking for something, and found something else! This Old Britts bracket is for hanging the sidecover on a MkIII when you remove the airbox, but I made a much simpler bracket for my '75. Turns out the plastic clip that it comes with is perfect for the missing JPN bit.

Took over an hour to carefully clean and check the entire wiring harness. Only needed to replace 2 male bullets, everything else was intact.

4 wires on left are for police equipment, 2 wires on right go to the headlight harness, 2 wires at bottom go to the points.

This was the neatest routing without disturbing the battery space.

I still need to research which wire goes where on the assimmilator, shop manual is no help, nor were any of the photos I took...

AL to alternator wire
E to earth
W to warning bulb

Couldn't make out the letters, even with the magnification...

NOW I see them, knowing what to look for.

Thanx.

I can see an "E" under the left connector and there could be a "W" under the right one.
Sometimes it´s helpful beeing an optician..

This maybe helpful regarding the capacitor:

Ok, you want to restore the bike to very original specs, I have thrown mine out together with the Zender diode.
My battery was emtpy in a short time.
Now I have installed a podtronics unit.

A few stray parts arrived including the rear iso shaft I forgot to order in the first traunch.

Oil tank has some stubborn old sludge that refuses to go quietly, so it's off to the car wash...

John Player Special restoration project

Oil tank now squeaky clean inside.

John Player Special restoration project

Shorty breather hose from oil tank to airbox made from the old torn oil line.

John Player Special restoration project

NOS keyswitch, but it's not the original spec. I need to get a 1F-2M spade adapter, then switch the headlight on and off at the fairing.

John Player Special restoration project

Goofy key cover arrangement, but it's original spec.

John Player Special restoration project

What a whale. I need to seal the two bits together with a smear of RTV silicone after I get the spade adapter installed

John Player Special restoration project

Tranny in place, oil lines routed, even installed the power plug, but could only find 1 of the 2 screws.

John Player Special restoration project

Next item to cleanup & refurb: chainguard tail tip. All the spiders already hatched out of the egg cases.

John Player Special restoration project

That's it for this evening, a parting shot as I turned out the lights after re-installing the clean carbs on my '00 Triumph Legend for the "Blessing of the Bikes" in the morning.

Picked up the chrome bits looking like new. License plate back plate is redundant. Very unique JPN muffler mount plates, totally different from all other Norton muffler mount variants.

John Player Special restoration project

Also picked up the "old" fairing, it was shipped to my chrome subcontractor due to whatever goofball reason it couldn't be shipped to Laredo from England.

Arrived back from San Antonio to find the meters back from overhaul; as usual, perfect.

John Player Special restoration project

Long day of driving (almost 400 miles), but I was accompanied by a friend, and we had a nice lunch and visit with a mutual friend who lives in San Antonio.

Isn't the bevelled edge on the countershaft sprocket nut supposed to go against the sprocket?

Yep. Already flipped, along with the new screw from a few photos earlier.
