I'll toss that rather than drag the garbage back because it was beginning to smell. After The switch, left coil, new battery, and carb cleaning there was still an irregular popping back through the intake which is gone after draining the fuel and a dose of fresh fodder. Just took my first ride on it, besides noticing solid handling, vibration, etc. after being stuck on the GL, in 2 1/2 months..... Well.... My memory is refreshed and I'm in love again. Nothing like all of that racket and raw Limey get up n go to make the day.

Good for you. And I will report the same results with my bike. Refreshed carb innards and replaced intake manifolds. Now it pulls like a freight train in any gear, holds a perfect 1100 idle, and has instant throttle response at any speed. I'm in love again. Bugs in the teeth, bro.

You are aware that we shall pay the piper again in the future at some unknown point?

Nope.... Just a lengthy relationship with the old girl. Sometimes mama ain't gonna be in the mood, but when she is the party is on. Mine got jealous of that GD Goldwing.

After coming home from an 80 mile ride on Monday I bragged to my brother how superbly the old girl was running. He said, "Until it doesn't".
And BTW, it doesn't leak one drop of oil (knock on wood) anywhere... "Until it does".

Yep , had a clean floor under the Commando for last 5 yrs and a bit , last week noticed GB oil drip from KS shaft , was about 5 yrs years ago I put a real seal in there , guess I will do it again .... thought it should last a little longer ....

Glad to hear that your efforts resulted in the best way, nice job.

Based on my years on this forum and my own experience I would say that carb faults seem to top the list of maladies with restricted/plugged idle circuits most predominant. I have had great results with Techron (a Chevron product) cleaning the idle circuit, and usually in 40 miles or less, so bring a screw driver to reset both adjustments.

Best.

It seems that anything, I mean anything, be it low tire pressure, loose chains, clutch slip, loose bolts... I pull the tank and clean the carbs.... Some are joking, but any time something goes wrong I just go ahead and do this bit of maintenance because I've always managed to pick up trash at the most inconvenient times, and since I do get in the practice it's no big deal and goes quickly.
I went back to the plastic floats also in case I failed to mention that pleasing fact.
