I called Phil and told him what I wanted "Motard Shortie" he said no problem and within two days this shows up


Excited since this will be going on first thing Sunday Morning and to think the slip on says "for offroad use only" so it must sound good!

I will do a sound file of stock system vs the Motard system so you will also be tempted. "Personal Note: Call Phil and tell him I need a commission :lol: "

Hi Potratz

Good choice of system there, its my personal favourite of the options that we have. As you correctly pointed out the system is designed for off road use only and sounds superb, not to mention adds a meaner look to the bike. However, your ECU will need a re-flash as the off road silencers are a lot more free flowing than the stock road ones. Contrary to belief the 'de-cat' x pipe is predominately a cosmetic upgrade (a very nice worth while one !) as the stock cat section is not very restrictive.

I'm afraid if you don't re-flash your ECU to match the exhuasts then you wont be getting the benefit of the system (about a 5 bhp gain in the mid range), but more importantly you will likely run the engine lean and I'm afraid we cannot cover any warranty claim relating to engine failure if the incorrect parts have been fitted. Please contact your dealer to ensure you get the ECU tune you require if you haven't already done so.

You will like them, but as "Simon Says", get the remap, or it will run way too lean

Potratz - Again, good choice. I have the same but with the CATS. It's great to hear there isn't much difference to get the DE-CAT because in CANADA it's hard to get away with it legally and I've been contemplating swapping its. Thanks to Simon commenting, I'll leave it alone now - thanks for helping make up my mind.

They sound so amazing! Really make the bike come alive. You're going to want to get ear plugs for long rides. At 3,200-4,000 RPM cruising rpms the ear drums can feel it. But the smile makes it worth it. You should have heard three of us in the Blue Mountain tunnels -- it was the coolest music you ever heard. Def. the most unique and best sounding bike I've ever heard - maybe I'm bias tho... At the INOA camp site it was ALL bikes with all sorts of exhausts but John and I could always tell when one of us was riding around the campground. You know that certain voice that movie trailer guys have that can be heard no matter the background noise "In a world of chaos, one man stand apart from the rest -- get ready, this summer......-- That's this bike with that exhaust. It can be heard thru any other noise and not be offensive.

Any how - cool bike and cool exhaust!!

Potratz, Its going to be a whole new bike. From masking the mechanical clatter at idle (which will get better over 700-1000 miles) to the roar when you open it up, to the music it makes when you back off the throttle. No more will you hesitate to start it for friends or strangers!

Trust me you are going to love it!

Potratz, Read my Re-map thread from August 7th. You will see how you can UPS your ECU to Gold Coast if the weather doesn't allow to take the whole bike for re-map. You should get 1 day service from UPS in your area without paying for overnite delivery. With a little luck you would only be down for 2-3 days and if you do it during crappy weather it won't be bad!

When I picked the bike up they mapped it to the newest map I think they said #77. Is that not the correct map for these pipes? Phil at Krazy horse thought it should be sufficient but what have you guys experienced?

77 is the early map for the louder pipes and you should be ok for a while. 90 would be the newest map for your shorties but maybe you can wait awhile so you won't be down during whats left of the riding season!

Here is a down and dirty video of the pipes and please ignore the building I have the bike in presently. This is my pole barn I had to store them in while my new garage and workshop is being built which I will be sharing pictures of the garage soon. They better work faster though since it's getting cold.

Looking good! I went with the long open pipes because I wasn't convinced I like the look of the shorties. Seeing this makes me appreciate them a bit more.

Hi Trevor, They do cover up the sewing machine sounds and this is probably seat of the pants however I would swear the bike feels alive now. It just seems lighter and full of grunt. There was not import tax or anything. I spoke to Phil at Krazy Horse told him what I wanted and $1500.00 later the system was at my door in 2 days. If you order today I bet you will have the system delivered and installed for a ride this weekend. Install was approx 20 mins long.

I told you it would be like a whole new bike!

For purposes of discussion, this is the X-pipe I have on my bike, as supplied by SBN, which is actually an x-pipe, as compared to the pic of the cat-eliminator shown in the original post of this thread. Not sure if there is a difference in performance between the two, but they are not really the same. An x-pipe in an automotive application with a dual exhaust is supposed to improve the performance.

A true H pipe such as the stock Motad has better scavenging and there fore more HP in theory and has been proven on the dyno. When I gutted my Motad Midpipe I could look in the front of 1 side and see out the back of the other side as I reported in my New RE-Map thread back 6 weeks ago or so! The cat eliminator pipe shown in the first pic is very different then stock Motad which is a true H.

While we are gazing at photos of a Motad exhaust system, I am anxious to see a photo with the long version of the silencers. I am putting off my order until I'm sure of what I'll be getting. I've only seen the shorties up til now. A can anyone provide a photo of the "longies"?

Congrats on the new system so next step is pictures and video so we can hear it.

Just to clarify, both the stock cat section and the after market De-Cat (as shown in the first post) have a link between the two pipes joining the two sides of the exhausts.
