Well I have sorted out the 2 main teething problems. I was thinking about the clutch issue and thought the problem was more likely in the cable. I remembered that when the tank was off that the cable was tied in tight to the main frame spine with three cable ties. This was preventing the cable from seating on the gearbox cover properly. Only slightly, but it was enough. So I cut one tie off and adjusted 2 others and all is well. A properly operating clutch.
The short turned out to be a live pilot wire inside the headlight shell. The p.o. had fitted a new halogen headlight without a pilot and had just left the live wire flap about shorting on the head light shell whenever it felt like it. So I put an old Lucas bullet connector over the bare end and no more shorts.
Thanks to everyone for their tips and advice. Time to go and ride it now.
This last photo is when she was leaving Ohio bound for Oz.
Mightve been telling you , cool down here ( Katoomba. MISTY in fact . ) Best Youre own pace .
Clear run if shes still running in , trundling in groups can lack airflow . Only times the Bonne got hot / flustered .
Cool days for letting it settle in . Leaning on the exhaust clamp tool occasionally untill the copper washers have stopped
compressing , when hot . Then there pretty much done there .

Mark,
Good. It took me most of the summer to sort out all the little details on my S rebuild, but I never put large amounts of miles on it, so that's why. Few things to do this winter on it and it should be good to go coming summer. Hope you enjoy the summer riding there in OZ if it's not too hot. Keep it running.
Gary I think the Kiwi's stole that term from us! Good on ya mate!
Dave I have a little list of things that need sorting out. It's all slowed down a bit now that I am back at work but we'll get there. At least it's running now. The only problem is now my other 2 bikes need some attention. They have been a bit neglected lately. Work always seems to be getting in the way of what I really want to do. Play with my bikes
I've never seen one in that colour before! Not bad.
I bought mine to ride but it hasn't moved since I acquired it months ago as the head gasket blew.
Then I found a broken valve spring, rust damaged bore, and a chipped ring land.
I will think of your 'living' machine while mine waits on +40 pistons.
Enjoy!
