Well topic variance... When mine came out I was concerned with fuel issue. I was driving 25 mi. to pick up ethanol free 89 octane & adding lead sub. - fouled plugs. Ran straight ethanol free for a while & did okay. Now I just run pump hi-test and she gobbles it without protest. I do add stabilizer and no long term storage of fuel in machine to be on the safe side. I do know my '74 has hard seats & valves and handles the pump gas here okay.

Hi DogT
I believe the expression is 'Way to go!'
Enjoyed your post and this thread.

I hate to admit this, but..... a Commando looks just as good laying beside you with no damage to either party involved as it does with you on it, although it never can be said one looks good on top of you... That my friends is a bridge too far, if not downright kinky and painfully dangerous.
Be careful out there because though you may feel young when you mount her remember she's a lass pushing 50 or more having been ridden hard and put away wet aplenty, and in most cases long before she met you no matter her story or looks.
My Commando looks waaay worse with me on it

Being only 74, I'm to stiff to ever have a Commando. To much seat height for me. Can't get my leg over the saddle. So I have to live with only riding the Manx, the Vincent and the Victor Special. Have to admit that I got a bit lazy now, so to start the Manx, instead of the four steps push needed to start it, I bought a roller starter. Also a bit annoyed when passing the kids with knee down at the ground. Can't get that blasted knee out enough.

Yeah, I usually get cramps in the legs when I ride. My PT person has me doing lots of stretches now so maybe that will help. It sure helps in bed at night. I'm really surprised I can still start it, seems like it always needs to go through 2 compression strokes to start. The first one where I get the lever up fully and then the next one way down. But as you all know, it's in the technique. It doesn't help I have nerve damage from a herniated disk fusion and drop foot that I have to continually work on my leg strength or it just disappears. Some days I feel like a wheel chair, but that doesn't lead anywhere.

That 200' hill to the house is good for the heart and legs too. I can still walk up it without stopping, not at a trot though.

Put a good motor in it.

Thanks for posting DogT, glad to here that the fog is lifting, It was my brothers '70 "S" that gave me the Norton Bug years ago. When my wife and I started having kids I decided to sell all my bikes (mostly Honda and Suzuki). Anyway about 10 years after that I realized my kids could care less about bikes. So I decided to buy another Motorcycle, I had an old magazine with a kenny dreer on the cover and the light bulb went off and the search was on. I was stationed in southern maryland at the time (NAS Patuxent River) I was looking specifically for a MKIII because it had an electric starter and shifted on the left, I found my bike in Buffalo, New York. I guess what I'm getting at is that maybe it's time to "buy the button" from Matt at cNw----it wasn't an option for me when I went looking for a bike again, but it looks to be a great kit.

I followed your complete build on your bike and think that it is too nice to be in storage! I am fortunate to ride mine at least 3 times a week and it always puts a big smile on my face. I am not a spring chicken but with the electric starter I put on it gets me on the road with less effort
Hope you get to ride yours soon
Great therapy!

DogT - are you near enough the Skyline Drive to take a Spring ride? That would shave years off my life. I went to college in Charlottesville almost 40 years ago. I spent every weekend on the Drive on my 750 Honda. That was before the crowds, and rangers were only at the entry gates. I hope you keep riding as much as possible.

I can see the lights on Skyline Drive from the house in the winter when the leaves are off the trees. I don't need to go that far. If you look on the maps for Hume, there's a perfectly good road (Hume road) that goes west over to 522 (Zac Taylor hwy) then down to Flint Hill and back on Crest Hill to Hume. Or I can go straight up 688 across 66 and over the mountain to Rt 55 and back. It doesn't take me 1 mile to get on a rural no center line paved road here with minimal traffic. I'll have to give it a go when the weather settles down. Here's a pic of the bike on Hume road about 4 miles from the house with the Skyline Drive (Blue Ridge Mts) in the back not long after I got it finished.

It still runs

I've got great roads just outside my door:

Nameless Road, Leander, TX is 5 minutes away
FM 1431, Cedar park, TX is 5 minutes the other direction.
Round Mountain Road, Leander, TX is where my new shop is going up.

I remember that shot of your bike when you posted it the first time DogT.. BeeUtiful!! That's very much like my brother's bike that he had back in '77. The One that got me hooked on Norton,it had this blue metal flake fiberglass gas tank and side covers and the gelcoat was so deep.....and with that Halo ring headlight too!!! Ahh awesome

You gotta love it. My foot is still bruised, but useful, it doesn't bother me. We're not in total lockdown here so I'll probably go out one of these days when the weather gets better. As usual it will probably go from the 50's right to the 80's with the same humidity.

I notice the chain case needs a bit of polish. If I get really motivated, I'll change the oil after a run.
