Hello all

I've been lurking here for a while, about time I contributed. I've had this Mk111 for nine years now, no show bike but a nice regular rider. As regular as my job away will allow, anyway  When it is ridden, its usually for a minimum of 320k's, due to the fact that I live out of the way. had all the usual grief when I first bought it, but, with perseverance and a lot of help from a good mate , it's good now. And the fact that I have made friends through this bike just makes it better.

Fullauto knows me, and has this dreadful misconception that his 850 is better than mine   And if I buy a Buell, you can blame him for that, too. Not that anything will replace this Commando

look forward with talking with you all.

Welcome, and don't be too modest about your mighty fine Red-hot Mark III.

That is one nicely kept machine. You are to be commended for the time and effort it took to get it so nice. Pictures look really nice when taken under a tree in filtered sun.

welcome, nice shiny instrument cups :p
Only did those about ten days ago, . Used paint stripper>360 grade wet paper>600 grade.800>1200.Then hand polished with Mothers. Took about an hour a side, not counting disassembly. Thank you all for all the kind comments. have just recently added some stainless from RGM, in the front aircleaner plate, exhaust mounting plares, a few other small bits. I consider something like this a rolling work in progress, and made to be ridden. Motor has only done about 8000 miles since a full rebuild, 1/2" master cylinder conversion on stock caliper and pads, stops quite well. I rebuilt the Konis myself last year, forks have Progressive springs with 20W fork oil, work well enought for me. Wheels are 19" as you can see, I find a 100/90/19 TT100GP works very well on the front, much sharper turning than the 4.10 TT100. Keep that for the rear.

Hi Ralph, good to see you made it here. I'll ring you tomorrow re the Buell purchase. Not coming on the Sunday morning ride then?

Ranmar, What model Buell are you looking at? I have a 98 S1, It keeps me from pushing the Norton too hard. When I feel the need for speed I jump on that and get it out of my system. Take care, Chuck.

It's a 2002 X1, White Lightning version. Doesn't look to be bad from photos, price is OK. Current owner picked it up at auction, now appears to be unloading toys. I'll be looking at it Tuesday, probably , as I travel through Perth on the way home. Some H-D DNA in the shed? Never thought I'd see the day. I feel dirty...

Don't forget to check if the oil pump worm wheel has been replaced ...

Excellent looking bike . Can't wait to get mine back with the new engine . I've got a spare tank and side covers that I want to have painted just like that . Then I can switch back and forth as the mood strikes me . I like my JP paint but that red looks AMAZING .

Do you know what model Koni's you have and what the spring rate is ? I need to source a set and have them rebuilt .

The Koni's are "Special D" 's , which means you have to remove them from the bike, and remove the spring , to adjust the actual damping rate, unlike the "dial a ride" 's which are adjusted in situ. I'm sorry but I wouldn't have a clue what the actual spring rates are. The rebuild actually consists mainly of thoroughly cleaning all the perished rubber bits out of the damping orifices, and fitting a new seal. I sourced my kits from the Australian agent, but a mate has done some since, and just measured the seals and bought them from a bearing supplier, for even less than the modest amount I paid for "genuine"
