Just wanted to introduce myself.
Live in Orlando Florida and just bought (July 6th) my first Norton. 1974 Commando 850.
I have owned many bikes, and actually have two other bikes besides the Norton.
I became a fan of Norton's in 1990. Always wanted one but never found the right deal, and of course at that time, an affordable deal.
I was talking to a friend of mine one evening in my work shop while he was looking at a race bike I own.
The conversation went to bikes we have always wanted and I mentioned a Norton.
He tells me of a friend of his, actually a neighbor of both of ours, that had a Norton he was wanting to sell.
I never would have ever believed, two streets over from me, lived a guy I had never met that owned a Norton.
The deal on the bike is, he bought it new in 1974 and sold it to his dad in 1977. He purchased it back in 1978 (title is from 1978) and road the bike until 1997.
Here is when it gets interesting. In 1997 he removed the battery, gas and brake fluid and parked the bike in his bedroom.
That's where the bike stayed until Sunday, when I bought it. The bike has 16k miles and is really clean. Not a show bike, but very clean and mechanically all original.
I received all the original books, tools and records from the day he bought it.
I'm really looking forward to bringing the bike back to life, and taking it for a ride.

Welcome. Well cared Norton you have. Good year to own to my understanding. I'd fire er up if it were in those conditions. Fun bike to ride.

Welcome wp
So did your neighbour get married and she was freaked out sharing his bedroom with a Norton watching?
We always like pictures.

:? I dont think your going to get pictures of what she was up to in the bedroom .

Actually, with a neck surgery and still some back issues he could no longer ride. He really wanted to keep the bike but he needed the money.

Just a quick follow up...

I changed all the fluids and put some gas in a remote can I made up (the factory tank is shot) and the bike fired on the first kick.
After a couple of more kicks and started and ran pretty good.
Today, I put more fuel in the can, set a fan up to cool it down, and let her run for about 20 minutes.
The bike really sounds good.
Now I need to do the other maintenance items and get a tank, to take her for a quick ride.

One thing you need to be carefull of ,is muscle freeze of the face, cos when you ride that baby you're going to be smiling till your lips fall off !
