Instead of hose clamps?

Is there an aftermarket oil junction block for the back of the engine where you use some kind of couplings with a cone and a nut (I don´t know the name for this in English) instead of the horrible hose clamps? I´ve gotten to dislike hose clamps more and more over the years..... :evil:

"Cone" - I think you are referring to what is called an "Olive" in England.

Steve Maney sells a replacement block that utilizes Aeroquip fittings
 
Mine originally had crimped 'ferrules'. But you'll need the ferrule and crimper or someone to make them, or you can do it yourself in a vice with a drilled out nut cut in half across the hole. Old Britts sells the ferrules, wouldn't surprise me if AN sells them too.
 
Crimped ferrules..... we call these "O" clips in the UK & special pliers are needed to tighten them.. you can get away with side cutters at a push to crimp them.
The only problem is that once used they have to be discarded
 
Something like this was what I figured should look nice, this part on the hose with a professionally crimped ferrule(?). Either with a nut with threads on the outside or the inside, the matching part on the tube from the oil junction block with an olive as "cliffa" calls it. I looked at Maneys junction block, nice and small but with two straight tubes just as the standard Norton, only shorter. I´m pretty shure there´s a couple of companies not too far away who can do this, will investigate.

McMaster-Carr sells the pinch type clamps.Make sure you get the pliers, too. They are hard to install without the proper installation tool.

Called 'O' Clips, they come with one 'ear' or two. Compulsory for oil pressure lines in UK classic racing.
 
I'd go one step further with the Maney junction block if it can be mounted upside down, so the oil lines travel downwards rather than over the top of the gearbox. Much tidier. Only work with the later oil tank though.

Yeah, Nice, but that is not how Steve supplies it, I have one, 100% better than the Norton part. You have added the black theaded parts yourself! You might want to give the OP the part numbers you added and a supplier.

I see you have countersunk it for the retaining crew as well. I have a normal cap head there, which lets me wire lock it.

The only thing I question with that is that the unions you are using may have a smaller ID than the original parts? Or did you change the threads as well?

I use the original screw in parts with rubber hose and O Clips. Absolutely no doubt what you did is easier to work with and looks better. I find it a real pain to fit the block with hoses attached, but I am trying to get best oil flow on a race motor! I have even been inside the thing with a dremel!

I see you also changed the hose fitting on your Comstock/CNW breather. I have to fit the hose to mine before I drop the motor in because there is no room for crimping an O clip between the engine plates. Do you have enough room to do up the threaded union?

Ferrules and O Clips are quite different, both shown above

In Australian historic racing, the use of oil hoses with clamps is prohibited - the fittings have to be permanent. My bike wet-sumps quite quickly, so I detach the feed hose and stuff a bolt up it, then refit it for racing. The next time I race, the idiots will probably have a go at me. I will either have to stare them down or withdraw my entry and fight for a refund of the fees.

I'm stunned at the amount of fixing required for the oil lines that have almost NO pressure.
How much pressure needs to be restrained in 14" head of feed oil?
How much pressure is needed to push oil through a car filter?
Almost zero.....

The correct rubber lines that have some push on snugness could likely go 10's of thousands of mile with NO clamps at all.
I would think the biggest job for the clamps is to keep jealous Triumph and Harley owners from pulling your lines off while you are inside the bar/tavern.
