I can't see the oil being that dirty really
It'll have gone through the sump filter and the remote filter and it's changed every 1000 miles
Dripping on the chain is useless as pissing into the wind.

Dripping oil onto a fast moving chain is a great way to blast an oil droplet into a mist that can be blown everywhere and be deposited on everything but the chain.

Oil that you are PRESENTLY CIRCULATING in your ENGINE (so it's only as dirty as you let it get) is better for the swingarm spindle, than it is for the chain which requires a totally different lubrication.
Doesn't everything you put into the swingarm pivot dribble down the engine plates and onto the floor within a few days? Or is that just mine?

OK, thats on the list for the winter upgrades. Is it usually just new O rings needed, or is there something more serious I need to do ?
You could replace the "Dust covers" and O-rings...

Before you take it apart see exactly where it is leaking and beware of leaks at the ends that don't drip off and go around the end of the swing arm and finally drip of where it meets the cradle. You may only have one spot leaking. If it's one of the outer two and you have the thru bolt, maybe it just needs to be a little tighter but they break easily so only tighten a little. And, make sure you're using 140 oil!

140w with good o-rings shouldn't dribble if the end caps are nipped up and the spoke threads aren't stripped.

I use a mixture of 1 part liquid grease ISO 680 and 1 part engine oil. Feeds the swingarm from a brake oil reservoir under the seat. No dribbling when the bike is parked.
I have almost always used the original chain oiler. It throws oil about, so what!

Will these work without going to the later spindle conversion?If so,do you change the caps?

They can replace the 06.0446 dust covers and large O-rings but, of course the bushes have to be removed to change them.
I suggest a smear of sealant is applied to the joints between the seals and the swingarm pivot tubes.

Thanks, I am using 140w oil, had to buy a litre, but am getting through it faster than I expected
Definitely using 140w, but I guess the o-rings could have gone off, I last replaced them in 1981, but in my head I know I replaced them so they must still be new
