idle

Hi,
What would be the standard from the factory rpm idle for a twin carb 750 commando?
What about a 750 with a single carb?
Is there a difference between 750 and 850?
Does a single carb set up idle lower than a dual carb set up
I ask because I have read differences from one article to another some bikes run 1000 some 1200 some even higher

As far as I'm aware, there wasn't any factory idle speed recommendation for the 750 or 850, as no factory manual or owners hand book appears to list a figure for idle RPM (unless somebody knows otherwise?).

Always been 1000 with me but some are able to get it much lower like 600. I don't think that is good for it because of very low oil pressure.

Idle is worse state there is for any engine, especially our oil splash crank slung and head dribble cam lube, plus risk of stalling in slow go conditions makes realistic reliable road going idle ~1000 rpm. There is also the lack of enough alternator charging going on if lights left on and somethings even w/o lights - till V's get so low a brake light stalls it or just die on its own.

For Track most set at NO idle , though adjust stops even .

Gives more engine brakeing effect , Catch on throttle at lights . :shock:

I'm running the original Amals and it mostly runs at around 1000 but tonight it was up to about 1300-1400. Just filled up with non ethanol fuel today, maybe that made the difference?!
