Trying to identify barn find Commando. 1975 850, Frame and motor #319xxx! Any help is welcome!
Is it a Roadster?
No ELE starter but mount is there!
Two separate main gauges on top of bike!
Front disk.
One key lock on forks.

Its likely a 74 Mk2 850, 325XXX and above is 75 MK3 with starter. A 74 sold in 75 may get titled as a 75 but its still a 74.

The tank and side panels defines which varient it is but as these are easily swapped it could have been anything leaving the factory.

The mount is likely the left over from the magneto which later had the points before they were then moved to the end of the camshaft. It was to be used for a starter but too many broke and the MK3 had it fitted to the primary.

From the early starter motor that the factory never fitted not a magneto (the bolt spacing is different). However this was on the timing case not the primary case and an 850 should't have one (the blanking plate and hole were phased out during 1972 on 750 models) so we need to know more about this starter motor mount.

You tell us. How are we supposed to identify what we can't see. You've described what could be any later Commando.
Help us to help you. Only the bodywork tends to identify it as a particular model anyway so which model does it most resemble?

Based on this data it could be a Roadster, an Interstate, a Highrider or an Interpol.

319 *** is a Q2 or Q3 1974 build. Mk2 of some type definitely not Mk3.

Two separate main guages in top of bike ???? Are you talking about a speedo and a tach? If so this is the same on all.

If it shifts on the right it is a 1974 model. If it shifts on the left it is a Mark III. Is there any bodywork on the bike? Send photo

If it's a Mk3 the engine has been changed. No Mk3 has a 319 *** engine no.

It also has a 319 frame number apparently.
