I was studying that. The swing arm pivot is close to the countershaft sprocket, and at the same elevation. Engine/trans design must have played into it...
When Motor Cycle Mechanics raced a 500 one back inthe 70, the lengthen the s/ arm by 1.5 inches, as well as adding tubes in the obvious places compared to a Featherbed.
They won the season long 500 production championship. . enough said.

My favorite part is watching facial expression when people hear the sound....
A sound that was once quite commonplace on the street, and even longer in the dirt. It brings back audible memories, that trigger internal combustion memories. Even fast car guys can't help but smile.

I seem to remember my mates one ripping second gear apart ?
But he was drag racing it in a street class , it was denco tuned
I have read a bit about "shimming" in the transmission on these.
I've not seen that design mindset used in other Jap bikes transmissions, but very prolific in Japanese machinery.

The XS1100 has been maligned for weak second gear, but I hammered mine MERCILESSLY with first stock & later a 1196cc engine, never a whimper from the gearbox.

Timing. Sometimes my timing is off.

A while ago, a friend offered to give me tons of H2 cyls & heads.
Too busy, inadequate storage, and trying to simplify things...
Dang it.

Test rode it last night. Only 2 parts vibrated off.
Inoperative brakes are being rehabbed, the bits arrived after the test ride.

When I was in school (college) I purchased a Kawasaki 400 triple from the bike shop I would later work for. I think I paid 300 US dollars for it. It was locked up. We pulled it out in the parking lot, put it in 2nd gear and rocked it back and forth until it broke free. Put come gas in it, kicked it and it fired up in a blue haze. I rode it for a couple of months and sold it on, doubling my money. The guy I sold it too stopped me one day and asked "did you ever look at the ignition?" "No" was my reply. He said "you should have. It looked like the bike had been sitting under water!" I still love the sound they make.

The front brake is all renewed, works as well as can be expected, slippery stainless disc, organic pads. Rebuilt vacuum petcock is working, etc. Uni pod filters arrived, a few hundred bucks worth of various rubber bits. Trans oil was mud like. Performed the inaugural burnout.

There appears to be some purple paint showing. Compression is 155 across the board.

VERY nice.

I've had lots of fun on every triple model that Kawasaki ever made.

But mostly on this one...

Very trick H1. Took 3rd in AHRMA Formula 500 championship in 2008 as a rookie, racing only half the season, against VERY experienced guys with nicer stuff. It was a borrowed bike, I had just met the owner an hour before I was on the track with it! He let me take it home for the rest of the season.

the nasty vibrating wench destroyed the camera in my iPhone whilst using the Ram X-mount.
Yeah, it's known that motorcycles will kill later model phone cameras. The phone mount companies (at least Rokform and Quadlock) are now coming out with vibration dampers. Other option is to get a used phone and use that for GPS (no carrier needed)

And do you do all your work outside :)

New Battlax is on the front, tube & bearings. Easily the most "in balance" tires I've ever installed. Zero weight required on the rear, one 5gram weight up front.
Now I can "mythbuster" the alleged ill handling chassis
