Hi All: I was going to spend the weekend polishing the cast aluminum cases on the Commando but have come up against a hurdle when I set out to remove them from the engine. The previous owner fitted a Lucas electronic ignition system and I cannot get the timing pick-up (?) off its shaft where the points used to be. It's the round ring in the picture with the two extension 'knobs' the arrow points to. I don't want to force anything. I obviously unscrewed the long bolt in the centre, but that didn't make any difference. The pick-up remains tightly in place, apparently threaded onto the shaft--but I'm not sure, nor do I know whether it is a counterclockwise thread. The outside case cannot be withdrawn from the engine 'till it is removed (at least as far as I can see). Advice gratefully accepted!

The cam is tapered. That rotor should have internal threads for a slide hammer type puller.

That did the trick! Once again, the good people of Access Norton save the day. Thanks very much!
